Washington, DC (January 23, 2014) -- The upcoming 2014 Snow Show (Jan. 30-Feb. 2) at Denver’s Colorado Convention Center is known for showcasing cutting-edge product technology and the latest fashion trends, but there are also many exhibitors that focus solely on the human factor of snow sports. In fact, there are dozens of nonprofit organizations exhibiting at the upcoming Snow Show.
The list is long and varied— from avalanche safety to getting kids outside and retaining the history of skiing. Most are dedicated to the fun, passion and desire of this industry to share the love of all things SNOW.
The nonprofit Adaptive Spirit relies on Snow Show exhibitors’ donations for a silent auction held at their annual fundraiser simply called the Annual Event. Proceeds from the Annual Event go directly to fostering the competition dreams of Paralympic athletes.
“We're excited to partner with SIA at the Snow Show. Adaptive Spirit will celebrate its 19th Annual Event this coming April in Vail, Colorado. Over the course of Adaptive Spirit's history, the event has grown ten times in attendance and raised over $7 million in support of the U.S. Paralympic Alpine, Nordic and Snowboard National Teams,” commented Colette Carey, Adaptive Spirit publicity chair.
The Show also gives nonprofits such as Love Hope Strength the opportunity to further their cause.
“A huge benefit of attending the Snow Show for our organization is to literally save lives by getting people ‘ON THE LIST’ to be marrow donors, free of charge. Ever since SIA came to our hometown of Denver, we’ve been getting people ON THE LIST in our booth. Within that time, an astonishing five matches for patients in need of transplants have already been located,” commented Shannon Foley Henn, Love Hope Strength executive director.
“We encourage everyone at the Show to take a few minutes and stop by the Love Hope Strength (Booth# 2138) and GET ON THE LIST to be a marrow donor. It is as simple as a cheek swab and the completion of a consent form,” added Foley Henn.
Burton’s nonprofit, The Chill Foundation, works with at-risk and underserved youth to build self-esteem and life skills through board sports. The Chill is returning to the Snow Show for its third year.
“We got involved in the Snow Show initially because Donna Carpenter, president of Burton, felt it was important to gain some exposure and meet people in the industry who have supported Chill. Chill’s exposure at the Show has resulted in donations from mDefinite and TDABoulder, which is evident in our beautiful website that launched last year. We hope everyone will stop by our booth located at the main entrance of the Show,” said June Heston, The Chill Foundation executive director.
On Saturday, Feb. 1 at 8:30 a.m. in the Colorado Convention Center’s Atrium Lobby SOS Outreach will host the 5th Annual Youth Summit - recognizing corporations and individuals who have shown extraordinary commitment to nonprofits focused on youth and outdoor recreation.
“For SOS Outreach, the show represents an opportunity to meet with and expand partnerships with many of the organizations that make our programs possible. SOS partners with leaders in the ski and snowboard industries to provide youth development programs to over 5,000 youth nationally, and this is the time that we’re able to learn from them and gain commitments for the upcoming year,” said Arn Menconi, SOS Outreach founder & executive director.

10th Mountain Division - Established to memorialize the glorious history and exceptional achievements of the World War II 10th Mountain Division and to perpetuate its memory for future generations
Adaptive Spirit - A not-for-profit trade association focused on building business relationships and effective networking practices in the cable television industry. All surplus funds from their Annual Event benefit the U.S. National Paralympic Ski Team.
American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) - Develops standardized curriculum for a complete program of avalanche courses that meets the needs of students at all skill levels.
Board Retailers Association (BRA) - A nonprofit representing almost 3,000 independently owned board sport retailers in the surf, skate, snow and wake industries.
Bring a Friend Challenge – A way for friends and family members to share their love of skiing and snowboarding with others by helping them sign up for lessons from professional instructors.
The Chill Foundation - Provides opportunities for at-risk and underserved youth to build self-esteem and life skills through board sports.
Colorado Ski Country USA – The not-for-profit trade association that represents the ski industry for the state. The Association is comprised of 21 member resorts and conducts public policy, public relations and marketing.
Cross Country Ski Areas Association - A non-profit organization representing cross country ski operations in North America.
International Avalanche Nest Egg Fund (IAN Fund) - All donations help benefit children and families who have lost loved ones in avalanche tragedies.
International Skiing History Association (ISHA) - U.S.-based organization working to preserve and build awareness of the sport’s heritage through its skills and long experience in editing, research and publishing. ISHA publishes a bimonthly magazine Skiing History, filled with lively, carefully researched stories and stunning images from skiing’s past.
Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month (LSSM) - Each January, LSSM encourages children and adults to learn by taking lessons from professional instructors.
Love Hope Strength - Through the GET ON THE LIST campaign, Love Hope Strength registers marrow donors resulting in matches from concerts around the world. Through unique events, they build cancer centers, giving people access to early detection and quality cancer care.
LOVE YOUR BRAIN - Kevin Pearce has embraced and believes LOVE YOUR BRAIN is critical to living a safe, active and healthy life. LOVE YOUR BRAIN’s mission is to prevent brain injury, support TBI rehabilitation and promote brain health among youth.
National Ski & Snowboard Retailers Association - Represents specialty snows sports retailers, and advocates on their behalf on issues affecting their businesses.
National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) - The trade association for ski area owners and operators. It represents 325 alpine resorts that account for more than 90 percent of the skier/snowboarder visits nationwide.
Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) - The only national organization dedicated to workplace equity, diversity, and inclusion by expanding opportunities for women in the outdoor, snow, and bike industries.
Professional Ski Instructors of America - American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) - A nonprofit education association dedicated to promoting the sports of skiing and snowboarding through instruction.
Protect our Winters (POW) - A nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the protection of our winter climate through support of community-level initiatives, educational programs and activism.
Snow Sports Recycling Program (SSRP) - A first-in-the-nation pilot program to recycle snow sports equipment.
SOS Outreach - A youth development nonprofit that fosters self-confidence, leadership skills, and positive decision making in underserved youth.
USA Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) - The premier snowboard and freeski organization in the United States.
