Announcing Industry + Intelligence, January 28: Kicking Off the 2015 Snow Show With a Full Day of Market Data, Education and Inspiration

#SIA15intel: One of the most exciting new offerings for the 2015 Snow Show is the creation of INDUSTRY + INTELLIGENCE, scheduled for Wednesday, January 28. It’s a great opportunity to launch into the Show with a day of free market intelligence, industry education and keynote inspiration. Invite your staff to get prepped for the Show with insight on the latest trends, consumer behavior, retail data, digital marketing, social media, and customer connection.

The day will begin with the very popular Product Category Research Seminars presented by SIA’s Director of Research, Kelly Davis. SIA will also share the initial results of the Downhill Consumer Intelligence Project (DCIP) in collaboration with more than 20 research and non-profit organizations. DCIP is the first research effort in a decade focused on developing a comprehensive and current understanding of alpine and snowboard consumers that will guide strategies and tactics to grow snow sports participation.

“Having a Snow Show kick-off day dedicated to communicating the state of the snow sports market, identifying opportunities to grow our businesses and collectively work together to grow participation makes this an event not to be missed.” – Jared Bevens, trade show committee member and VP Global Footwear Merchandising for VANS

Throughout the afternoon, additional seminar tracks will focus on improving marketing and increasing sales plus two keynote speaker presentations.

Job seekers will flock to the annual Shmooz industry job fair, hosted by SIA and Malakye.com, connecting the unemployed with potential snow sports-focused employers. And to wrap it all up, the All-Industry Nite will feature several industry-only partiesand events throughout downtown Denver.

“Show attendees are often booked solid from morning to night with appointments during the Snow Show. The INDUSTRY + INTELLIGENCE will give everyone one more chance to sit-in on popular seminars and meet-up with industry friends on the front end of Show,” commented SIA’s Director of Trade Show Debbie DesRoches.

New Exhibitor Spotlight: Q and A with Vemo Sports

Steve Kvinlaug, Vemo SportsVemo Sports, a new exhibitor at the 2014 Show, will be back this year with a comprehensive line of Nordic skis ranging from backcountry to high-performance race skis. Industry veteran Steve Kvinlaug, former long-time President at Alpina, decided this new venture was a good fit, claiming he’s still “got a lot of gas in the tank.” Vemo will be the sole US distributor for Sporten Skis, a Czech brand that has been in existence for over 100 years. Kvinlaug has a long-standing relationship with the brand, and as a team, they decided that now was the time to bring Sporten to the US.

SIA: So what was the motivator for you to start distributing these skis to the US, after such a long time with only European distribution?

SK: Well, many things. First was the fact that they wanted to do it; I have a long-standing relationship with this company and they wanted to work together, so that was number one. Number two was I wasn’t that old that I wanted to retire, and I still got a lot of gas in the tank, so that was a big motivator. And it’s something that I know inside and out, and people that have worked with me all these years know that too, so they’re kind of happy that I’m back, and I am too.

SIA: What has the response been so far to Vemo Sports and what was the reaction to the Sporten line at your first Show?

SK: People have been very enthusiastic. It was great exposure for us to come to the Show, and I think we’re going to do very well. I’ve been in the ski business since 1971, but it’s still exciting and fun to start something new. You know, we want to get the total exposure for this line and show off the product that we already know is great. People might not know the brand, since this is its debut in the US, but when they see it, in 30 seconds they go, “oh yeah that’s cool.” They’re great looking skis and you’ve got all the key things in the lines; you have a backcountry program, a regular training program, fitness, and a high performance. People can see right away that these are well made and that it doesn’t need to be complicated.

SIA: Did you think it was important to be at the Show in your launch year?

SK: Yes, of course. Starting a new company, I know how important it is to be at the Show. We want to give people a feel for what we’re doing, and they can see very quickly what we’re about, and they get it. I’ve been in the industry for a long time, so I knew I wanted Vemo to have a presence at the Show from day one.

Be sure to check out the Vemo Sports booth at #SIA15! Vemo will not only be the sole US distributor for Sporten skis, but also for Fizan ski poles and Botas boots. Check out the full line at vemosports.com.

“The Show was awesome! Tons of traffic and excitement, which we were really excited about. We’ll be back every year moving forward. We’ve gotten new business from being here, and as a launch year, it’s been absolutely great.”
Tracy Bordwell, Creative and Technical Design, Fate Clothing

"As a snow-sports journalist, I find the SIA Snow Show to be an invaluable resource. There's nowhere else I can survey all of the latest gear and get face time with interesting suppliers, retailers, athletes, and other industry movers all in one place."
Sam Bass, editor-in-chief, Skiing Magazine

“You have everyone in one place, so you can see everything you need and get an idea of where trends are going. It’s a good overview of what’s going on in the industry. Last year we picked up a couple new lines that I wouldn’t have necessarily picked up had I not gone to SIA. The Show gets you psyched.”
Jim Slanetz, Owner, Board Bin, ID

“From our standpoint, our line has gotten larger each year, and the exposure at the Show is huge. There are so many people here and this Show seems to grow every year, it’s really beneficial for our sales reps to be here.”
Carrie Crogan, Trade Show Coordinator, Under Armour
