As plans are being finalized and excitement is building for the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, we thought we’d check in with some of the experts on Copper Mountain’s terrain to get a sneak peek at what’s in store for Demo participants. We caught up with Woodward at Copper Manager Danny Vogel and Copper Mountain Communications Manager Austyn Williams to hear a little bit more about what makes Copper Mountain an ideal location for the On-Snow Demo.

SIA: Danny, As the General Manager of Woodward and Copper’s terrain park manager, you’re an expert on the terrain parks people are going to be using at the On-Snow Demo. What are the features of Copper’s terrain parks that you think will lead to a successful demo experience?
DV: Our Woodward at Copper terrain parks will be a hit during the SIA On-Snow Demo due to the fact that we cater to progression throughout all of our parks.  For the beginners in the industry we offer a new terrain based learning area with rollers, banks, micropipe, and first time boxes.  We also offer small and medium size parks that help progress the intermediate rider into higher difficulty jibs and jumps.

Central park, our large park, will have a set up of medium jumps ranging from 25-40 feet that will prepare you for our big line with jumps around 50-60 feet.  Our park crew gets pretty creative in our Lower 29 flats as well with some great street inspired features.  Basically, our terrain parks cater to any style rider in a fun and progressive manner.

SIA: Can you tell us a little bit about Woodward in general, and specifically how access to the Woodward Barn will be a benefit to On-Snow Demo attendees?
DV: Woodward at Copper will offer the SIA on snow attendees an experience they have never received at any other SIA demo or resort for that matter.  Our Woodward Barn facility just went through a major renovation switching from snowflex to skatelite material which allows all wheeled access like skateboards, BMX, MTB, inline as well as our custom Parkboards and Parkskis that are engineered with wheels on them.

Attendees will be able to access the barn throughout the On-Snow Demo for Intro sessions, which give an overview of our facility and the safe way to use it, or they can do Skate/BMX session, Drop Ins, and even go through a guided tour. Check out woodwardatcopper.com for more detailed info on our programs and facilities.

SIA: Austyn, How do you think Copper’s other facilities and base village will help make Copper a great venue for SIA’s On-Snow Demo?
AW: First of all, we’re located just 75 miles west of Denver off Interstate 70, so it’s very easy to get here from Denver. Most important, our terrain is perfect for a demo, because it’s naturally divided with easiest terrain to the west and expert terrain to the east, so everyone in the group can find the terrain they’re looking for to test the gear.

With unique programming like Woodward at Copper, Tucker Mountain Snow Cat access, seven terrain parks and a 22-foot Olympic-sized Superpipe, there really is something for everyone.

Our base village is great because it’s easily navigable and pedestrian-friendly. We really strive to establish a low-key, genuine feeling that is inclusive and comfortable for everyone, which will make it an ideal location to come together at the On-Snow Demo and Ski/Ride Fest.

The On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest takes place in conjunction with WWSRA, Rocky Mountain Demo. Copper Mountain is a perfect transition onto the slopes after four days of meetings and product demos at the SIA Snow Show. During the two-day Ski-Ride Fest, snow sports retailers and media test gear and accessories they just previewed at the Show including ski, snowboard, AT, backcountry, and cross country products. In conjunction with the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, the Nordic Demo will be held at Copper Mountain Resort for 2 days, delivering the largest and most concentrated event for the industry trade; on the snow and off.  Launching the trends, innovations, culture and energy of the Nordic market, buyers can see and experience complete product lines showcased for the 2014.15 collections while meeting with key principals and renewing relationships.

Chris Frado, Executive Director of the Cross Country Ski Areas Association, a sponsor of the Demo, said she feels that the Nordic Demo is irreplaceable for anyone who wants to get a true understanding of the lines and products available. “You’re not going to get a better opportunity to realistically compare products side by side in the same conditions on the same day. And the Nordic Demo is the only place you can see the entire product line; no matter how many reps come to see you, you’re not going to have this kind of chance to see and try everything that’s available all in one place.”

Frado added that one of the most important parts of the Nordic Demo is the amount of cross country knowledge all in one spot. “You have all the national cross country product managers all in one place. It’s a think tank of cross country knowledge and to be able to pick the brains of that many product managers is incredible. You don’t get that kind of opportunity anywhere else, and that alone makes coming to the Demo worthwhile.”

The Nordic Demo will offer buyers an opportunity to try all nordic products including cross country skis, snowshoes, poles, wax, and accessories. On Copper Mountain’s beautifully groomed Nordic trails, buyers will experience the latest trends and have an unparalleled testing opportunity.

“The Show was awesome! Tons of traffic and excitement, which we were really excited about. We’ll be back every year moving forward. We’ve gotten new business from being here, and as a launch year, it’s been absolutely great.”
Tracy Bordwell, Creative and Technical Design, Fate Clothing

"As a snow-sports journalist, I find the SIA Snow Show to be an invaluable resource. There's nowhere else I can survey all of the latest gear and get face time with interesting suppliers, retailers, athletes, and other industry movers all in one place."
Sam Bass, editor-in-chief, Skiing Magazine

“You have everyone in one place, so you can see everything you need and get an idea of where trends are going. It’s a good overview of what’s going on in the industry. Last year we picked up a couple new lines that I wouldn’t have necessarily picked up had I not gone to SIA. The Show gets you psyched.”
Jim Slanetz, Owner, Board Bin, ID

“From our standpoint, our line has gotten larger each year, and the exposure at the Show is huge. There are so many people here and this Show seems to grow every year, it’s really beneficial for our sales reps to be here.”
