The First Environmentally Sustainable Meetings Facility

Colorado Convention Center

The Colorado Convention Center (CCC), home of the SIA Snow Show, is sustainable by design and in December 2012 became the first convention center in the world to meet the APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards at Level 1.  Most recently, the convention center re-certified at Level 2 by focusing on continually improving upon their efforts.  This standard focuses specifically on the impacts of a meeting or event by going beyond sustainable building practices to also incorporate best practices of community engagement, communication, and staff management.  This certification complements the CCC's certifications to both LEED EB:OM Gold Level and ISO 14001.

The CCC facility also addresses sustainability with:

  • Natural light in several lobbies
  • Single-stream recycling, back of house composting collection, and a robust donation program.
  • Solar panels that offset 280 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year
  • Annual diversion of 250 tons of meetings materials from the landfill
  • More than 50 percent of employees biking or using transit to commute
  • “No idling” rule for shuttles and taxis
  • Centerplate’s Blue Bear Farm with 5,000+ square feet of growing space that will provide the caterer and food service provider  with at least 3,000 pounds of produce annually

“The Show was awesome! Tons of traffic and excitement, which we were really excited about. We’ll be back every year moving forward. We’ve gotten new business from being here, and as a launch year, it’s been absolutely great.”
Tracy Bordwell, Creative and Technical Design, Fate Clothing

"As a snow-sports journalist, I find the SIA Snow Show to be an invaluable resource. There's nowhere else I can survey all of the latest gear and get face time with interesting suppliers, retailers, athletes, and other industry movers all in one place."
Sam Bass, editor-in-chief, Skiing Magazine

“You have everyone in one place, so you can see everything you need and get an idea of where trends are going. It’s a good overview of what’s going on in the industry. Last year we picked up a couple new lines that I wouldn’t have necessarily picked up had I not gone to SIA. The Show gets you psyched.”
Jim Slanetz, Owner, Board Bin, ID

“From our standpoint, our line has gotten larger each year, and the exposure at the Show is huge. There are so many people here and this Show seems to grow every year, it’s really beneficial for our sales reps to be here.”
Carrie Crogan, Trade Show Coordinator, Under Armour
