The 2013 SIA On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest at Winter Park Resort and Devil's Thumb Ranch provided the perfect transition onto the snow after four days of meetings and product demos at the SIA Snow Show in Denver, Colorado.
During the two-day Alpine/Snowboard Demo at Winter Park and one-day Nordic Demo at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, snow sports retailers and media tested gear and accessories they just previewed at the Show. The Ski-Ride Fest was open to all in the industry to do what we do best – get on snow.
Alpine/Snowboard Demo Products Featured: skis, snowboards, backcountry, ski/snowboard/AT boots, poles, goggles, and helmets

“This is a great opportunity for us to connect with our retailers outside, not only under fluorescent lights at the convention center,” - Matt Berkowitz, Director of Marketing/Product, Fischer Sports
“This demo is so valuable since there is no other opportunity to test equipment side by side like this,” - Joshua Stephen of Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington, Vt.

Uphill/Downhill Challenge
A race to the top of the elite, the Uphill/Downhill Challenge combined endurance and sport, in support with SCARPA, the USSMA and a number of companies and individuals within the backcountry, randonee, and splitboard communities. The fastest woman was Eva Hagan, who finished two laps in 1:00:43 and the fastest man was Marshall Thompson, who finished two laps in 49:00. Great times had by all!
“It was better than ever – the international contingent was bigger, but it was much more inclusive than ever before,” said Scarpa CEO Kim Miller.
Après Awards & Beers
As the Uphill/Downhill Challenge came to an end and the first day of demoing wrapped up, cold beers were served, awards were handed out, cowbells rang and raffle tickets were drawn for great prizes!
Shingdig at the Summit
The industry mingled 2 miles high at the Sunspot Lodge, with eats, drinks and live music starring The Willbillys, featuring SIA Board Member, Bill Treacy plus cameos from Rome Snowboards’ Dan Sullivan (Sully) on the harmonica and SIA’s own Tom Davis on the guitar. The inaugural Shindig at the Summit was sponsored by the SIA Board of Directors.
“We had a huge crowd – way more people than expected,” Billy Treacy said. “We had good support from the crowd and it was super fun for me to be able to play in front of my SIA peers.”
