IN NEW ENGLAND, THE LEAVES ARE TURNING, WINTER’S CHILL IS IN THE AIR, AND EXCITEMENT FOR THE 2014 SNOW SHOW IS ALREADY BUILDING
The fall foliage is nearing peak in Vermont’s Mad River Valley, and after a dusting of snow on the mountaintops in the past few days, everyone in the snow sports industry is getting excited for another great season ahead. For many of the industry’s key players, the 2014 SIA Snow Show is a major part of the season’s plans. A quick tour around the Valley gave us gorgeous views of the red and orange leaves as well as a sense of the excitement building for this year’s Show.
We caught up with John Egan, adventure skier and Sugarbush Resort VP and Chief Recreation Officer, as he was getting ready to lead Vermont Senator Pat Leahy on a foliage hike with a group of constituents. “The most important thing is community, and the Show is where our community gathers,” Egan said. “I love going to the Show because the people are what make this industry special and it’s great to be a part of it!”
Jim Robertson, VP of Sales at Sugarbush Resort, said the Show is a must-do on his calendar. “For me, going to the Show is extremely valuable because I can meet with all the executives and decision makers right on the Show floor. It’s the best place for me to go to have an opportunity to negotiate pricing, talk about new programs, or sit down with marketing execs and work out plans. It’s great to be able to get decisions made and then implement those plans right away.”
Annemarie Furey, an industry consultant and principal of Product Think Tank LLC, said the Snow Show is important to her because of the face to face contact with industry professionals and the ability to feel the energy our industry creates.
“I think live networking is still invaluable and you can feel that energy when you go to the Show. I like to really observe the vibe around the products and launches; you can see people’s reaction as they’re stopping or walking by, and it’s interesting to see what pulls them in. That’s not something you can get a feel for any other way than being there.”
As reports of early snow come in from around the country, and we increasingly take peeks at the Farmers Almanac’s optimistic forecasts, it’s clearly time to start looking forward to the gathering of our community in January – can’t wait to see you at the Show!
TERRAIN. TERRAIN. TERRAIN. NEW ON-SNOW DEMO/SKI-RIDE FEST LOCATION UNITES BEST OF PRODUCT AND SNOW
“There is so much good stuff being introduced right now, that you really have to get out on the snow and test it for yourself.” -- Steve Rogers, Sports Specialists Limited specialty retailer buying group
After the SIA Snow Show closes, 3,000+ snow sports pros will head to the hills for the industry’s annual On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest and Nordic Demo
being held in 2014 at Copper Mountain Resort February 3-4, 2014.
At this new location, only 74 miles away from Denver, an award-winning and naturally divided trail network in the Colorado Rockies will showcase the 2014/15 gear you exhibited at the Snow Show. Copper is a sure bet for amazing ski, snowboard, AT, backcountry and cross country products experiences.
And there is a lot of incentive for retailers to come to the On-Snow Demo at Copper Mountain after the Snow Show ends. For only $20 they get two days of lift access, breakfasts and lunches, apres ski/ride happy hours, transportation to and from Denver and ski/snowboard demos and rentals.
The Nordic Demo held the full length of the On-Snow Demo at Copper will have designated short test loops including varied terrain perfect for cross-country gear comparison, volume of Nordic equipment retailers cannot find elsewhere. It is an unmatched chance like-minded Nordic aficionados to meet.
“Copper Mountain is honored and excited to welcome Snow Show attendees from around the world on our slopes and facilities,” commented Jesse True, Copper Mountain Resort’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Copper’s world-class conference center and pedestrian friendly village will be the ideal base camp for SIA’s On-Snow Demo.”
