Johnson, an employee at Youth Shelter Supply in Waite Park, MN for three years, said his ambition is to be involved in the industry as an artist and designer. “I have never been to SIA, so to have an all-expenses paid trip is a dream come true….my goal in the snow industry is to one day be working for a snowboard company designing board graphics. SHOW CHECK IN: INDUSTRY TALK WITH MEGAN MARKIW OF BENCH - New 2013 Snow Show Exhibitor
SIA: What are you looking forward to most about the Show?
MM: This will be our first year at SIA, so everything, really. Our brand has been around since the late ‘80’s in the UK and Canada, but 2011 is our first year in the US, so we’re looking forward to connecting with the snow sports market here. We’re a lifestyle company, and our brand fits really well with the snow sports market, so we’re excited to tap into that.
SIA: Anything specific you’re looking forward to bringing to the Show?
MM: We haven’t even seen our new line yet, so we’re excited to bring everything that’s new. Our samples will be arriving this week and we can’t wait to see them.
SIA: Do you have plans for things to do in Denver?
MM: We don’t have any specific plans yet, but we know it’s one of the more fun shows we’ll do this year with a lot of nice people. We do a lot of fashion shows in New York, so we’re looking forward to being out in Denver and enjoying that atmosphere.
SIA: Any fun plans for the holidays?
MM: We’re having an office dinner here in New York, and then I’m heading to Japan for Christmas. Another person in our office is going to Turkey, where she’s originally from, so while unfortunately no one is taking a ski vacation, we do have some fun plans!
SIA: What’s your favorite thing to do in New York during the holidays?
MM: After our office dinner we’ll head over to Rockefeller Center and see the tree together. I guess it’s a little bit of a cliché but it’s also really fun and festive.
SIA: What’s the one thing everyone in your office can’t live without during a winter in New York?
MM: Our Doris sweaters! All the girls in the office have them and we love them – they’re a great weight and they have a nice shape. We wear them all the time.
