Full Line-Up of Parties, Events, Concerts and Industry Gatherings
Washington, DC (January 28, 2013) -- Beginning this week, the 2013 SIA Snow Show (Jan. 31–Feb. 3) will bring together more than 19,000 attendees from the snow sports world including suppliers, retailers, reps, athletes, media and professionals. The Show will feature 1,000+ snow sports brands across 332,000+ net square feet of exhibit space including 106 exhibitors that are brand new to the Show or returning after taking a hiatus.
In addition to the product orders, meetings and line presentations, the SIA Snow Show also presents the year’s best parties, events and gatherings, which happen only at the Snow Show. We’ve highlighted some of the major events below, plus a comprehensive listing of events also appears in the Interactive Show Guide.
“There’s no doubt the social and networking aspect of the Snow Show is at the top of the list — this is where the whole industry gathers together once a year. Some of these relationships go back 10, 20 even 30 years,” said David Ingemie, president of SIA.
Show festivities will once again kick off with the Never Summer SOS Ice Hockey Shootout on Wednesday, January 30, 8:45 p.m.–10:15 p.m. at Foothills Ice Arena in Lakewood, Colo. Cheer on thirty hardcore players from the industry plus a few NHL alumni who will square off to benefit SOS Outreach. Free transportation is available and spectators are encouraged, especially if they like cold beer and “beer league” hockey.
SIA’s new Sourcing Snow trade show will start one day prior to the Snow Show and run from January 30 to February 1, showcasing the top component and textile suppliers essential to snow sports brands. SIA expects to draw several hundred attendees to the inaugural event.
On the evening of January 30, SIA will host its annual 2013 Snow Fashion & Trends Show acting as the official opening event and “Welcome to Denver” party for all Snow Show Attendees. The Colorado Convention Center’s Mile High Ball Room will be transformed into a classic mountain lodge replete with a stone fireplace, perfect for the snow sports industry to mix, mingle and enjoy a cocktail while previewing apparel collections for the 2013/14 winter season.
“We love to come to the SIA Snow Show to see the various trends in clothing and equipment and check out how the “younger” crowd is gearing up,” commented Nadine Bagdood, Champoux Ski-Cycle-Urbain’s, Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, QC, Canada.
Another Show highlight will be the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) Thought Leaders Keynote & Awards Presentation, on Saturday, February 2, 7 a.m.–9 a.m. Burton President Donna Carpenter will give an inside view of how she has shaped the industry through her women’s initiatives, dedication and passion, and how Burton is establishing a new norm for workplace culture.
Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks, the only winter-scheduled concert at Red Rocks, is back by popular demand for its second year. Featuring Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, the show is Friday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m. and is currently sold out with the hope of releasing more tickets.
The 14th Annual TransWorld Riders’ Poll Awards takes place on Friday, February 1 at the Fillmore Auditorium, where the best riders of the year, chosen by the riders themselves, will be honored. The Skiing Business Industry Awards, which recognize some of the ski industry's best leaders from around the country, will be presented Thursday, January 31.

Malakye.com and SIA are anticipating another great Schmooza Palooza job fair/networking event during the Snow Show with 12 companies participating. Quickly becoming Malakye’s premiere hiring event of the year, The Shmooz brings together the Snow industry’s leading employers and professionals for in-person interviews and networking. Free for both exhibitors and attendees, the event takes place on Friday, February 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Colorado Convention Center.
Back for a third year, the world-famous RECLAIM Design Project presented by 686, SIA and Malakye will give three talented designers an opportunity to be awarded the grand prize of a coveted internship at 686. The three chosen designers will produce an original garment created from existing 686 “reclaimed” materials and trims — actual leftovers from their cutting room floor. Show attendees can look on as the designers have three days to create unique designs in an effort to win the grand prize.
Following the SIA Snow Show, the industry will head back out to the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, (Feb. 4–5) at Winter Park Resort and one day Nordic Demo (Feb. 4) at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. The Uphill/Downhill Challenge, an endurance race raising money for the US Ski Mountaineering Team, returns along with the Malakye’s Office Booyz & Girlz Competition.
After a great day on the snow, the industry will head up the mountain for the Shindig at the Summit party on Feb 3. Free to all On-Snow attendees, the Zephyr Express gondola will take party goers to the Sunspot Lodge for beer, drinks, eats, and live music by the Willbilly’s featuring SIA Board Member, Billy Treacy, Director of Sales NA for Easton Bell Sports (Giro Sport Design).
The Nordic Demo, held at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, will have a new one-day demo format on Monday, February 4. Nordic buyers will be greeted with an opening reception and state of the market presentation on Sunday, February 3, plus an après party, and events among the beautifully groomed Nordic trails and amazing surroundings of Devil’s Thumb Ranch.
The On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest is hosted in-conjunction with the Western Winter Sports Reps Association’s (WWSRA) Rocky Mountain Demo and in partnership with Cross Country Ski Areas Association (CCSAA).
